Just a couple days after Valentine’s Day, the Classics at the Capitol series will be showing the 1957 “An Affair to Remember”–starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Tickets to this classic melodrama will be only $5.00, and will be available at The Capitol’s Box Office and Eventbrite with the link the left.
Released by 20th Century Fox and directed by Leo McCarey, “An Affair To Remember” is one of the most beloved romance films of all times. It gained a whole new audience of fans in the early 1990s after being referenced in the 1993 film “Sleepless in Seattle.” Grant and Kerr played two people, engaged to others, who meet while traveling on a cruise ship. The pair begin a romance on the boat, agreeing to meet in six months time on top of the Empire State Building. Unfortunately, life may get in the way of that happy reunion taking place.
“So many films have followed the template ‘An Affair to Remember’ set” says Andy Ross, local film writer who will be introducing the film. “But what every film that has tried to duplicate this movie lacks are the sparkling chemistry and charm of its stars. There aren’t many today who can match Deborah Kerr or Cary Grant. This is unquestionably one of the great film romances.” The Capitol will be presenting “An Affair To Remember” in a beautiful 2K restoration, in its original CinemaScope aspect ratio.
