Step out on the avenue with an Easter treat on the Capitol screen starring legendary figures of the silver screen, Judy Garland and Fred Astaire! The Capitol Theatre of downtown Greeneville, TN is proud to announce a showing of the 1948 classic MGM musical “Easter Parade.” The musical is filled with compositions by Irving Berlin.
Astaire plays Don Hewes, a stage star whose long-time dancing partner (the great Ann Miller) suddenly decides to go solo, leaving him high and dry. Don makes the bold claim that he can make a star out of any performer of his choosing, and picks Hanna Brown (Garland), a naive chorus girl who is fearful of Hewes’ attempts to mold her into a clone of his former partner.
“What a delight to see ‘Easter Parade’ on the big screen the Friday before Easter,” says Andy Ross, film writer and Capitol board member, who will be introducing the film. “This wasn’t announced as part of our first wave of films for our Classics at The Capitol Series, but the idea of adding these little ‘surprise, pop up’ films has been floating around for a while. I hope everyone will come and join us for this fun night with Fred and Judy!”
